2011/08/17 - S3 and meaningful charity in August 2011
Charity activities of S3’s staffs are still continuing quietly but effectively by their actively contributions to society. In this August, charity group of the company including young staffs and HR staff paid a visit of charitable donation to the homeless who sleep on the pavements.

The group organized the task efficiently by dividing the group into smaller groups to buy gifts (about 200 shares including raincoats, sweaters, blankets, tiger balm). Another rainy season is coming and the company staff wants to share with the poor laborers on the street by donating those practical gifts. Before paying an official visit, Hieu and Tu had surveyed several streets and listed some streets on which the homeless usually sleep. At Tuesday night of August 12th, after handing gifts, dividing groups for the detailed routes, we started the task from 10pm to 1am, on behalf of the company, to bring the joys to the poors.

And actually, only after going and experience, we see that there are so many difficult lives, and we feel that we are so happy…
Saigon by night is quiet and in fresh air. It is not busy and deep in traffic jam like in day time. The light along the roads is slowly blurred. The city get in sleep, the rich is like the poor, but their sleeps are different.
Every day, after a hard working day in the office, we and our friends gather in group to have dinner, enjoy the delicious meals or café, or listen to the sweet and harmonious melodies, view the whole Saigon view from the highest floor of a building…then we go home and have sweet dreams in boring feel of life.
Some day, if you got a chance or intention to do, go along the quiet streets, you will know how happy you are. Of course you are always aware of the thing, but it is meaningful once you experience a sleepless night to see how people sleep on the streets, with a vast sky of stars above…
We come to Bay Hien crossroad and see along Ly Thuong Kiet street, under the porch, the homeless with few personal care things, is sleeping.
The first one we meet is a man who collects all the wasted items to recycle. He wears a shorts and when we come, he sits by a light pole and sleep there. Startle as strangers, he stands up and when we give the gift, he smiles and asks “Relief committee?”

We ask about his hometown and how long he did the job, he says “I started this homeless life for 7 years, my hometown id Ben Tre, and I stay here the pavement for months. Previously I was in Thu Duc.”
The next location is the place in front of Tan Binh market. There is a pedlar who sleeps between the goods. We think she is afraid that someone will steal her things, then she has to sleep between them and lie on the busy pavement rather than a dark corner. When we come and put the gift by her side, she is still in the sleep and we do not wake her up.

Travel along the streets until 2am, we finished the task successfully with a wish of have much more gifts to bring to them.
Early morning in the way to home, we can see the city starts to wake up, people move on the street to begin a new day, and the homeless as well as the poors do too…
